Singapore Crowned Asia's Maritime Capital

Singapore won the crown of Asia's Maritime Capital at the fifth edition of the Asia Boating Awards. These awards were held at Le Royal Meridien Hotel in Shanghai on April 17. The event is sponsored by Blu Inc Media, which publishes Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines. Olivier Burlot, managing director of Blu Inc Media, noted that "This is the chance for Asia to celebrate its achievements and growth, and for the world's boaters and boat builders to take note." The award for Maritime Capital recognizes the effort that Singapore has put into making the city a sailing and boating hub. One° 15 Marina Club in Singapore won the award for Best Asian Marina/Yacht Club of the Year, and the city has seen a number of new yacht clubs and marinas in recent years. Last year's winner was Qingdao, China. The China Cup International Regatta was named Best Regatta Event of the Year for the second year in a row. This is quickly becoming one of the biggest yachting events in Asia, and runs from Hong Kong to Daya Bay along the Shenzhen coast.
